31/07/04 Port Navas: Wonderful
weather and a record crowd combined to make the 2004 Port Navas Regatta
a truly memorable event. Also very popular were the games, such as 'Don’t Ring the Bell' and Hoopla, organised by Aline Turner. The Whiskey Maze competition concluded with an exciting roll off between four contestants – the final winner was Robert Shea. The Tug o' War, organised by Henry Shaw, is always a hard fought contest. This year The Buchanans were victorious in a thrilling final. The barbecue, drinks, cakes and – very popular on such a hot day – ice cream was served by a busy team led by Ann Ohly and Sally Annan. The Budock Vean Hotel donated the meat for the barbecue and there were over 100 contributions of cakes and biscuits from local residents. |
The committee boat team led by Nigel McClusky kept order on the water and announcing duties were very ably shared by Phil Badger and Mike Hutchinson. The prizes were presented by Rosie McCluskey and, as usual, the rowing and swimming races were very competitive. The 'Row and Run' was split this year to give the 'Under 16s' a better chance. Jomby and Pip Badger were victorious in this category. Richard and Treve Winfrey took the St Euny Cup for the '16 and over' race. The Ron Badger cup for overall highest point score for women went to Gill Pascoe and the President's Cup for men was taken by Dave Harford. |
